Confident in Your Choice of Storage Units?

When it comes time in your life to store personal possessions, finding a facility that will host your items with the utmost care is important.

That said you should put some time and effort into finding a storage unit provider who comes highly recommended.

Whether you find them via word-of-mouth referrals, the local newspaper, the Internet, be sure to do some investigating, thereby giving you some peace of mind that your belongings will be properly cared for.

So, are you confident in your choice of storage units?

Whether opting for Queens storage units or those closer to where you are located, put some time and effort into seeing which facility best suits your own needs.

Make the Right Selection the First Time Around

So that you can feel confident about the selection in storage units you make, remember these tips during your search:

  1. Location – The last thing you want to do is rent a unit in an unsafe part of town. Be sure you investigate the neighborhood where your prospective storage unit is located. Is it an area known for crime? Is it hard to get in and out of due to traffic? Is the facility itself set up so that tenants can easily maneuver around to reach their respective units or will there be congestion issues if several people are all there at once? Knowing the area before you agree to a renting contract is an item you should not take lightly;
  2. Conditions – Is the facility you are considering renting from maintained properly? You want to make sure any facility you may rent from offers temperature-controlled units. This is important in order to lessen the chances of mold and other issues from taking hold. You want to be assured that the units are properly cooled in the summertime and heated in the wintertime, thereby keeping your possessions in good shape. Also look to see if there is any way for water to seep into your unit. As mentioned a moment ago, the last thing you want to deal with is mold. In an enclosed environment such as a storage unit, mold can quickly spread, leaving the potential for damaged goods, goods that oftentimes can’t be replaced;
  3. Pricing – Make sure any facility you think about doing business with is up front about its pricing plans. For example, you do not want to find out that there are ad-on fees to the monthly or weekly charges already being presented to you. Does the facility make it easy to pay one’s bill, whether they want to do it in person or via a computer or mobile app? Rather than get locked into a long-term deal, it is oftentimes better to take a shorter lease, thereby allowing you the opportunity to see over time if you truly like the storage unit or not;
  4. Customer service – While the saying goes that you get what you pay for, customer service should always be high no matter what kind of business you are dealing with. Were the people you talked to at the storage facility friendly? Did they answer all of your questions in a professional manner? Did they respond in a prompt manner if you left a voice mail or did it take them forever (perhaps not all) to respond? These are just some areas of customer service that should definitely be on your radar;
  5. Incentives – Lastly, does the storage unit facility you are considering offer any incentives to do business with them? Some businesses will offer features like the first month’s rent free when you sign-on with them. They might also offer discounts if you refer someone else to them who ends up leasing a unit too. Incentives do not necessarily mean a business is desperate. It can mean that they are always coming up with ways to attain and retain customers with savings too good to pass up.

If a storage unit is in your future, spend the time it takes to properly choose the right facility.

In the end, you will be glad that you made the extra effort to find the unit best suited to your needs.

Remember, these are your possessions, so don’t rust their safekeeping to just anyone.
